Restaurants

  • Hawke's Bay's excellent restaurants run from casual breakfast spots to elegant fine dining. Find a great example at the very cool Mister D, a nicely laid-back bistro.
  • The award-winning restaurant Bistronomy is a casual dining space serving local cuisine inspired by the soil and sea.
  • The terrace at Elephant Hill offers amazing views of Cape Kidnappers. The delicious international cuisine and fine wines live up to the setting.

Bars

  • From Kiwi pubs to posh cocktail dens, you'll find all sorts of drinking spots in Hawke's Bay. The cozy Rose Irish Pub is a Napier institution.
  • This is wine country, after all. Urban Winery serves a variety of North Island wines in a cool industrial space.
  • For some stronger stuff, head to Monica Loves. Tucked down an alley next to Mister D, this cool bar serves cocktails, wine, beer and tapas.

Alfresco Dining at Wineries

  • In the warmer months, Hawke's Bay's wineries have some of the best tables in the region. There's no beating open-air dining with views of the vines.
  • Just north of Napier, Crab Farm Winery is a family-owned winery with delicious local food and their own wine. For even more ambiance, go on live music days.
  • Dating back to 1851, Mission Estate Winery is New Zealand's oldest winery. The alfresco restaurant offers stunning views of Napier and the coast.
