There is something mysterious about the spot where the Tasman Sea meets the Tongaporutu River in Taranaki. The landscape is never quite the same. “Elephant Rock”, for example, lost its massive trunk in 2016. Of the legendary trio of rock formations dubbed “The Three Sisters”, one was also suddenly gone one day, swallowed by the sea.
