Fremont Central Park
An enormous outdoor oasis is the place to enjoy quiet afternoon strolls and barbecues, and hire paddle boats to explore the lake.
Located in the bayside city of Fremont, about 18 miles (29 kilometers) from central San Jose, Fremont Central Park is one of the biggest and best in the area. Featuring sporting facilities, an 83-acre (34-hectare) lake and plenty of green space to relax, it’s a favorite San Jose getaway.
Wake up early and join locals for a morning jog around the lake, or wait until dusk to enjoy a romantic sunset by the water. During the day you’ll find shady spots for resting, as well as barbecue facilities for special gatherings and picnics. Animal lovers should drop by the off-leash area to watch dogs and owners socialize, and stroll the paths along the lake to see ducks and geese. To enjoy the tranquil waters up close, hire a boat and paddle across Lake Elizabeth.
Kids will love the Aqua Adventure Water Park, which has an entry fee. Here they can cool off in Bucket Bay and the Candle Lighters Fortress of Fun. Fremont Central Park also has four separate playground areas and lots of space to run and play. Nearby you’ll find a number of community facilities including a visitor center, a senior citizens’ center, a performance pavilion and several sporting areas.
Show off your volley on one of the tennis courts, join a soccer game or shoot some hoops on the basketball courts. Golfers can practice their drive at the nearby range. If you’re the type who prefers to spend a lazy afternoon fishing, find yourself a comfy spot beside the lake and sink a line.
Fremont Central Park is open at all hours of the day, however, most facilities close towards dusk. Check at the visitor center or have a look at the website for boat rentals and water park fees.
