Museum of Science and Industry
Hands-on, interactive exhibits help you experience the science in everything, from the workings of the human body to natural disasters, space exploration and drones.
Take the children on a mind-expanding, interactive and immersive exploration of science from life on earth to mysteries of the universe at Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI). Dream of something and make it with a 3-D printer. Participate in live science demonstrations across three floors of fun with more than 450 hands-on exhibits focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (S.T.E.A.M.).
In the lobby, ancient and modern times contrast with two diplodocus dinosaur skeletons and the Meridian Shuttle, an intelligent vehicle that is 100-percent driverless and electric. Visit Idea Zone, MOSI’s technology playground and inventor’s studio, a “do-it-yourself” laboratory.
Kids in Charge! brings together science, creative thinking and imagination for children in one of the country’s largest children’s science centers. Separate zones feature fun games and activities teaching about physics, analysis, building things, food facts and drones. Slippery Science makes physics fun.
Head to Disasterville for simulated earthquakes, wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes. Find facts about five other disaster genres. Experience 75-mile-per-hour (120-kilometer-per-hour) winds in the Gulf Coast Hurricane.
Discover what it would be like to live and work on the moon in 2070 via rides and virtual moon views in Mission: Moonbase, a simulated lunar colony developed by NASA and MOSI.
Learn about the complexity of the human body in the Amazing You section. Hands-on exhibits demonstrate seven stages of development starting from conception. Test your courage on the High Wire Bicycle and Sky Trail® Ropes Course and Zip Line.
Experience the wonders of astronomy in the Saunders Planetarium. The twice-daily Super Science Showcase features fun experiments. See spectacular films on the Florida Hospital IMAX® DOME Theatre’s 82-foot (25-meter) hemispherical screen.
Explore MOSI Outside to discover how natural wetlands produce clean water, visit a butterfly garden and stroll through a historic tree grove. The backwoods nature preserve features protected gopher tortoises and other plant and animal species.
Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry is open daily except Thanksgiving. Pay to park in the museum’s lot. Plan a full day to explore MOSI’s 75 acres (30 hectares), including stops in the on-site café and gift shop.
