Foggy Bottom
You know about this place, even if you’ve never been here: it’s home to the White House, as well as heaps of museums and war memorials.
Just west of downtown lies Foggy Bottom, thought to be named for its low-lying riverside location, which was often shrouded in a mysterious foggy (and smoggy) haze during its early industrial years. These days, the prestigious George Washington University dominates much of Foggy Bottom, meaning you’ll find heaps of eclectic eateries and pubs lining the cobblestone streets, while the federal offices add a distinctly professional flavour to this well-connected neighbourhood.
