Hai Zhu is the only district in Guangzhou that's on an island, and rests on the peaceful south banks of the Pearl River. Visitors discover a strong history in this city that dates back to the early Han Dynasty (25-220 BC), alongside ancient sites, a unique ecosystem and a fascinating insight into Chinese life. Check out our range of deals on a Hai Zhu hotel, and enjoy your next trip to China!

A tour of the heritage sites is the best way to get a feel for the city's history. Stroll down to the Yungui Bridge and admire the architecture, or visit Pazhou Tower and Chigang Tower to see engineering marvels. All three were built in the Ming Dynasty and are over 400 years old. As you're walking, notice the rivers, inlets, forests and gardens that make Hai Zhu a magnificent place to live. The waterways all connect, and form the oldest highway in the city which allow boats to navigate the island. They are still in use today to take people into the urban areas, and goods out to the ports. Jump in a taxi boat and see this unique side of the city yourself, as you soak in the views from the water.

Check out Canton Tower so you can witness what was, for a brief period, the tallest structure in the world. Today it's still the tallest structure in China, and the rooftop observatory remains the largest outdoor observation deck. Perched 449m off the ground, the views here are phenomenal. To see every angle of the skyline try a trip in one of the crystal cars on the edge of the roof. For shopping, you need to visit Hai Zhu Square. This area was once a stronghold for the military, but today has become one of the most colourful markets in Asia. It's the best place in the city for souvenirs, and here you can find that special gift much cheaper than in other parts of China. If you're still looking for more shopping, you can't miss OneLink Plaza, which is a wholesale market with eight floors of fashion, accessories and shoes.

The Sun Yat-Sen University's South Campus is fantastic to visit, where you can see magnificent buildings that are all over 100 years old. Check out the Memorial Hall and learn about the founder of modern China, and grab a photo with his statue in front of the main entrance.

Hai Zhu is the perfect destination for your next visit to China. Come and enjoy the heritage, phenomenal shopping and unsurpassed city views, as well as an insight into Sun Yat-Sen. Grab a great deal on a flight to China, and you'll enjoy your next vacation. All you need is your ticket and some great Hai Zhu accommodation, so wot are you waiting for?
