Accommodation In Nashville
The country music capital of the world, Nashville is a good ol’ city full of history and creativity. There’s heaps of live music (and not just the country variety), historical mansions, art galleries and even a Greek Parthenon. You don’t have to be a broken-hearted, down-on-your-luck drifter with a guitar slung over your shoulder to come here (although it’s a good place for it). Nashville’s Southern hospitality has something to offer any open-minded traveller, so book your Nashville hotel with us to get moving.
History
The capital of Tennessee , Nashville was a city of music from the very beginning. In the 1800s, the Fisk Jubilee Singers from Fisk University became the first Nashville music group to tour the world. When they played for the Queen of England, she remarked that they must be from “the Music City”, giving Nashville its nickname.
Things to do
They don’t call Nashville “the Music City” for nothing! Big-name bands rock out in Ryman Auditorium, a venue built specifically for Reverend Sam Jones’s powerful voice. Honky Tonk Highway has bars full of live music both day and night, and you can throw some coins in a tip jar if you dig it. Nashville Symphony is for those who love an orchestra, and you can also find gospel, bluegrass, folk and a whole stack of other styles in Nashville.
Belle Meade Plantation and the Hermitage are historic homes and museums, and if you want somewhere to relax, Centennial Park and Cheekwood Botanical Garden are lovely green spots. Cheekwood comes with an art museum – and if that’s your kinda thing, visit the Frist Center for the Visual Arts too.
One of Nashville’s perhaps most unexpected attractions is the Parthenon, a full-scale replica of the Athenian original. It was built in 1897 due to Nashville’s nickname as “the Athens of the South”, and it now houses an art museum of its own.
Shopping and dining
As well as nice malls like Opry Mills, Nashville has boutique record and music stores. When all that rocking out starts to make you hungry, tuck into some of Nashville’s famous hot chicken, steaks, Southern-style American dining, fine cuisine… there are no shortage of choices.
