The Queen Mary is great for a one-night stay, just to wrap yourself in the history of the vessel, but… it feels as if the hotel is a missed opportunity in so many ways. It is heartbreaking to see that in many areas the ship is literally disintegrating, and it isn’t apparent that restoration efforts are underway. While recognizing that a 90 year old ship is going to have issues, items like plumbing that makes the shower in a stateroom inoperable will likely prevent this ship from becoming a repeat destination. The staff that we encountered were just maybe slightly above average in their approach to customer service.

It was difficult to find the entrance to the facility. I drove around the facility. There was limited lighting and signage. I was directed to the Employee Lot. Because I didn’t get a ticket, I was given a Parking Ticket at check-in but told it wasn’t necessary to return to the Lot to put it in my car. Okay…

My stay at the historic Queen Mary Hotel was a truly unique experience. The rooms are charmingly preserved to reflect the ship’s rich history, with Art Deco decor and original fixtures that transport you back in time. While the rooms offer an authentic vintage feel, some modern updates could enhance comfort without losing the historic appeal. The porthole windows and wooden paneling add character, but keep in mind that this is not your typical luxury hotel—it’s an experience steeped in nostalgia. The ship’s history and ambiance make it worth visiting, though it may not be ideal for travelers seeking contemporary accommodations.

First I must say that the staff is outstanding and very very gracious. Lovely staff who really seem to genuinely care about the guests at the hotel. The parking situation was very very stressful as there was a rave festival happening. My husband left to visit someone and the security guards for the rave festival refused to let him back into the hotel parking lot so we could check out. He got stuck at least a mile from the hotel. The hotel manager was so helpful and gracious and took a golf cart to find my husband and bring him back to the hotel, pick up me and our luggage and bring us to our car. I wish I could remember the wonderful staffs names, but I was so stressed about my husband being stuck so far from the hotel and not being allowed in that I was pretty mad. So I apologize if I was testy with any of the Queen Mary employees, I knew it was the outside hired security that messed everything up. And I feel bad for the employees who were dealing with the situation over and over because of the security company. The manager was nice enough to ask for our room number (A16) and told us he would take a bit off of our room bill for the inconvenience. Very classy 👍 The other issue was the parking ticket machines that were faulty that day and charged us twice. The nice lady at the front desk told us she would comp the parking fee. Classy! The room on the ship was nice, clean and interesting. The only issues were there was no hot water. And the TV remote didn’t work.

Very cool to stay on this historic ship! Rooms are huge and I loved catching the jazz band on the ship. Heat and a/c are older and do not always work efficiently. The front desk offered extra blankets or fans for this.

The bulletin boards about history was great. The room was huge, bathroom setting was correctly dated with lots of room. The restaurant was 5 star . Need to add to bucket list.
