Started off bad when previous occupants and housekeeping left a trash can full of stale cigarette butts under the counter. Should be on a checklist to check the trash regardless of the occupant rules. Smell stayed for days in spite of open windows and air freshener. Very gloomy, tired and dirty. We are not that picky having stayed in some pretty gruesome places around the world, but the housekeeper here needs to go back to school. Food residue and dirt along the baseboards looked like it had been there for months. Fan blades were throwing off dirt onto the furnishings, which are also pretty tired, as is the paint, the carpet, the wall paper, etc... The gutters are falling off the soffit and you can see where the ceiling has had some leaks in a couple of rooms. Even the vacuum looks like it belongs in the Smithsonian and it would only run 2 minutes before it would trip the current limiter and shut off. Sure, the price is right for the place and we survived, but with the rental market in Maggie pretty saturated, there are many places to choose from. We think both the managers (Carolina Vacations) and the owners share the blame for the condition of this property and if they don't want to bring it up to standards, then it should be taken off the rental market. After a week of scoping out other places, there are too many other places that are more attractive, and much cleaner that, while they may cost a little more.....well you get what you pay for. One last note, if you are a biker, this is not a real friendly biker place as the grading and slopes are tricky, especially with leaves covering everything and the drive is pretty steep at the road, with one entrance being better than the other. Parking was good since it is at the end of the street, as we had two trucks, two MC trailers and three Harleys with us and could not have done that at many places around town. There, I found something good to say. Also, while the bed looked thin, it was comfortable for us and we both have gimpy backs, so that is two good things. Porch was nice too and we enjoyed watching the squirrels try to hoist huge walnuts back to their nests....three things....on a roll.
