Kibbin | Private, Luxury Stone Cottage by Creek

Fall asleep to the music of Mackey Creek and awaken to a natural paradise! New stone cottage lodged in a secluded setting between pristine, rushing creek and mountainside, with the exquisite beamed interior of white pine, and locally sourced Linville blend stone and granite exterior. Heart pine floors on the main level and wool carpet in the loft. Marvin windows. Four skylights. Combination mountain cabin and Swedish decor. Architecturally exceptional in an extraordinary setting. Nestled near the Pisgah National Forest, the owners' property consists of 7 heavily wooded acres on the house side of Mackey Creek. The owners' back property line runs just below the back side of the ridge line hundreds of feet above the house. The front property line runs along the midpoint of the stream. The owners do not own the bridge over the creek.

About 3 miles by car from Curtis Creek Road leading to US Forest Service's Curtis Creek Campground and about 8 miles by car from the main trailhead for Mackey Mt. and Chesnutwood Mt. on Curtis Creek Road. Scenic access to the Blue Ridge Parkway (about a 15-mile drive from US 70 intersection with Curtis Creek Road) via Curtis Creek Road (steep, winding, mostly gravel, and open only from approximately April to November), which T's into US 70 about 3 miles W of the Kibbin; easy access to Parkway from East Asheville (35-minute drive) or Linville (45-minute drive). Linville Caverns and Linville Falls are a scenic 30-minute drive from the house.

The Biltmore Estate is within a half-hour drive, downtown Asheville within a 35-minute drive, and downtown Black Mountain within a 25-minute drive. Downtown Marion with its annual, nationally publicized Bigfoot Festival (media said that it drew 45,000 people in 2019) every September, and its Mountain Glory Festival every October, is within a 15-minute drive. Of interesting note, Kibbin was featured in the 2018 edition of "Cabin Living: Discovering The Simple American Getaway." A copy of the book is at the home for your enjoyment.

House Layout:
Ground Level-Corner bedroom with a king bed; a full hall bath (shower only); small corner bonus room with a twin bed

Great family time
The cabin itself is one of the nicer properties weā€™ve stayed in. Clean, tons of space, and beautiful surroundings. My kids absolutely loved the creek and played there for hours. We had a great time in the evening around the fire pit. The only (slightly) negative thing I have on this listing is that I thought it would be truly private. Across the bridge there is a building where we had a few ppl in and out of. Not a big deal, but we were hoping weā€™d be by ourselves in the middle of nowhere. All in all, weā€™ll be back and probably bring some additional family with us.

Very nice and beautiful home. You seem isolated when there but you are only 15 minutes from town. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful cottage!
We had a wonderful stay at Kibbin. The cottage is absolutely beautiful! It was in immaculate shape and beautifully decorated. My son told me he felt famous staying there :) It is in close proximity to multiple mountain towns, but there is not much to do immediately around the cabin. Be prepared to disconnect (we had no cell phone service and a weaker internet signal), but that was part of the fun. Would 100% stay here again and recommend. Perfect family fall getaway, we were sad to leave.

Hidden Gem
Located in the peaceful hills of Old Fort, NC (about 30 mins from Asheville), the Kibbin is a perfect location for an inspiring novelist needing a quiet retreat or an adventurous family needing a home base after a long day of enjoying the great outdoors. The local property managers were very communicative and easy to work, making this beautiful cabin an easy choice for anyone looking for a hidden gem!

Nice and relaxing family trip
The booking process was super easy and being that it was last minute due to another companies cancellation that was extremely helpful. The cabin is in a decent location and had almost everything that was needed. There were a few minor issues but nothing that would keep us from recommending this place.

Cozy cottage
We drove from Florida so our kids could have some winter fun. This house manages to be spacious and cozy at the same time with a stone cottage exterior and a warm cabin interior. Very peaceful relaxing setting on a flowing creek and convenient location with Asheville and Black Mountain in one direction, with Sugar Mountain and Beach Mountain ski resorts in the other direction.

Beautiful setting very comfortable cabin.
This property is in a beautiful setting. The sound of the stream and views of the surrounding woods is very peaceful. It can be challenging to get to at night but we learned our way quickly. Old Fort and Black Mountain are an easy drive and have several great restaurants and shopping in Black Mountain. Asheville, the Biltmore and the Omni are all easy drives, about 25-40 min.

Gorgeous Cabin
From check in to check out everything was wonderful about ā€œKibbinā€. The property is really tucked into the hill beside the road so it can be hard to see when you first arrive. Inside itā€™s absolutely stunning and had everything we needed. We loved listening to the creek from the bedrooms since the weather was nice enough to open the windows at night. Beautiful decorating, thoughtful design and a charming location make this one of the best properties Iā€™ve stayed in. We all loved it. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

Little Slice of Heaven
In the past, we've had some pretty horrific experiences when renting vacation homes. We were pleasantly surprised to find this large, rustic, stone house in beautiful condition, clean, and with all relative information easy to find on the fridge. The location is amazing (right on the creek, in the middle of nowhere -- just the way we like it), the interior is comfortably designed and there was plenty of space for our 6 guests to lounge either together or independently. The back deck was so quaint; I was sad that it was so hot, or we would've spent more time out there. Such a great house for entertaining. We got engaged while we were there, and we're already talking about possibly booking it to stay for our wedding! Thanks for having us!

Kibben Cabin
This was our 2nd time at the cabin. We absolutely love staying here. We love having the river below. We love that there is a bedroom and bath on each floor. The side patio is our favorite place at this property. We have never used the fire pit next to the river, but hope to the next time!

Perfect getaway
This house has everything you need for your getaway. Near Asheville and other hotspots. Beautiful home nestled next to a creek. The only downside, and not the fault of anyone, is the WiFi and cellular are very limited due to location. Bring a book and some family games. You wonā€™t be disappointed with this home.

We will be back!
My 13 year old described the cabin interior as the setting of a Disney movie. It is lovely! My 17 year old son had his waders on and was on the creek fishing for trout every day. My mom said now that we are back home she canā€™t sleep without the sound of the creek. We had a wonderful time and look forward to coming back with friends.

A Beautiful and Secluded Gem of a Place to Stay!
This is a beautiful ā€œcabinā€, custom built, three levels, in a quiet and secluded location. Although you wonā€™t get a mountaintop view, what you do get is a creek side oasis with a porch to enjoy the rushing water. About two or three miles out of Old Fort, it was very convenient to the surrounding forests, Black Mountain, and the other falls and mountain attractions. Very well maintained, with all of the amenities, and super comfortable! We highly recommend it!
