This quaint quarried from the river stone cottage sits right on Little River. Enjoy beautiful views of the river while relaxing in the hot tub on the screened in deck or roasting marshmallows around the fire pit on the stone patio. Also you can enjoy views of the river from the master bedroom and the living room. There is a boat dock and deep water and we provide 2 kayaks and paddles. Please bring your own life jackets. The completely fenced yard is perfect for dogs. You will love our modern fully stocked kitchen with stainless-steel full-size refrigerator, gas range/oven, dishwasher and microwave. You can grill steaks on the charcoal grill on the back deck. Our cozy living room with a large stone gas log fireplace will make you want to stay forever. Have a family game night with games, puzzles and cards that are stored in the chest in the living room. Both spacious bedrooms contain queen beds and flat screen Roku TV’s.

Amazing gem and wonderful location
Our stay at The Shire was nothing short of amazing! A quiet retreat with all the perfect amenities. It was peaceful and comfortable accommodations. The host was very responsive. We enjoyed the local cuisine, hiking, kayaking, and amazing scenery. We will stay here again! Cannot say enough wonderful things about this splendid cottage.

A great weekend
We really enjoyed our stay! Even though there was a burn ban and a drought, we relaxed in the hot tub, hiked in Desoto Park, visited arts & crafts events, went antique shopping, and ate local. The fenced in yard was a plus for our dogs. A perfect getaway to celebrate our 27 year anniversary.

Great property in a Great Location!
The Shire is better than described on the listing. I planned for a relaxing break from the stress of work and town and this was Perfect! The property is rustic and very charming! The fully stocked kitchen, outside grill and the Hot Tub makes it worthwhile! The Geese , chipmunks and hummingbirds are just lagniappe! Will visit again!!

Anniversary get away
This property is amazing in all aspects! Quaint and quiet, just what we wanted. All the amenities you would need or want. A great hot tub, fireplace and fire pit. The yard is beautifully wooded and private. We made use of the outdoor grill more than once. The beds were especially comfortable and we slept like a dream. We lost power one day and Holly was more than helpful finding out how long repairs would take and than gave us suggestions on things to do in town. We were close to two great restaurants and also De Soto falls where we wanted to hike. Took a day trip to nearby Chattanooga, this cabin was fairly centrally located to everything on our to do list. I would definitely recommend it!!! Thanks for a wonderful anniversary!!!!

Absolutely loved everything about this cottage- view of & access to the water, comfy beds, nice appliances, adorable decor and aesthetic, quiet location in a beautiful residential area… I could go on! The hot tub sits within a screened porch just outside of the back door. It’s very nice & felt amazing! Much thought was put into making this spot as cozy as it is efficient. The yard is perfection. Your doggo will agree! We are already planning to return & stay longer.

Winter Retreat
We had a lovely 2 night getaway at The Shire. This quaint and cozy property was ideal for a relaxing weekend of enjoying steaks on the grill and a dip in the hot tub. Although we brought some items “just in case” The Shire was equipped with all that we could possibly need. The cabin was well organized and clean. It is evident that the property is well maintained both inside and out. Looking forward to our next visit.

Mentone get away
Our stay at The Shire in Mentone was wonderful! The cabin is just as described online. Rustic and very comfortable. Well equipped kitchen for cooking. The hot tub was awesome! And the securely fenced yard was perfect for our canine companion. We were visited by Mallard Ducks in the river every morning, as well as Canadian Geese. We would love to come back in the summer to utilize the kayaks and explore the river! Thanks.

The”Shire” in Mentone Alabama
We wanted a late Fall vacation where the weather was not too hot and not too cold. We chose northern Alabama. We chose the Shire because it was pet friendly, on a River, and completely fenced-in. We loved the old charm of the cottage and it had everything anyone could want. We loved sitting on the back deck (very private) . The hot tub was wonderful and the fireplace waS great for chilly mornings. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a pet-friendly vacation spot in northern Alabama!

The house being located near Mentone, and Little River in the back yard for fishing were nice features. We ate at a couple good places in Mentone and had two state parks less than an hour away to go hiking.

Simply amazing
We should have booked more nights here! This place was incredible and we did not want to leave. The Shire is a great getaway. Everything was perfect. We can’t wait to make this an annual visit after dropping kids off at camp.

First Family Vacation-Perfect Choice
I spent over a week looking at over 2500 cabins for the perfect first-time-ever family vacation cabin. After searching through everything, we ended up choosing The Shire. It was the perfect location; had everything we needed for our dogs and checked all the boxes on our list of requirements. This little slice of heaven is right on the river and the whole property is completely fenced in for our two furr babies. The cottage is fully stocked with all the amenities, we actually packed too much for our first-time trip. The interior is very well decorated and not overly crowded. It has a very nice butcher block counter in the kitchen along with a huge farmhouse sink and all fixtures are updated in the kitchen & bathroom. Safety wasn't a concern either as there were several smoke detectors & fire extinguishers on the property. We didn't venture out much; however, there are several restaurants and many things to do around the area. We did enjoy a Hunts Brother's Pizza which is less than 1 mile from the cabin. The GPS app took us directly to the property, easy check in, perfectly maintained and very clean. We were greeted by 4 ducks immediately upon arrival and were left some duck feed by the owner (we brought our own as well). The ducks visited daily and brought along two geese. More ducks joined in each day and by the last day of our trip, we were feeding 2 geese and 7 ducks. It was amazing to be on the water, enjoying nature and relaxing in such a cozy cottage. We even got some snow during our trip and enjoyed the fire pit outside as well as the fireplace inside. The hot tub was very relaxing, well maintained and easy to control all the settings. Our dogs (Smokey & Bandit) enjoyed all the property had to offer. They were give out after the first day of smelling the entire yard. I have Verizon cell service and my mother has Straight Talk and both of us were able to get signals and calls using WiFi calling. Texts, Messaging Apps, Facebook/Instagram were a little slow but hey, you are in the mountains and shouldn't be on your phone anyway. My mother & I are so impressed by The Shire and the owner's that we will definitely return. I can't say enough good things about this cottage. You won't be disappointed, and you will definitely want to return.

This was the perfect location for our family. Our pup was able to explore the fenced in property. The kitchen was well appointed. The property was an easy drive to town and to many outdoor activity options. Our baby girl enjoyed her first camp fire and s’mores.

Everything was amazing at the Shire. Was the perfect escape from everyday life on a beautiful property. With it being right on the river and having both indoor and outdoor fire options along with a hot tub, couldn’t have been better.
