Such promise but not lived up to
The underground parking is very tight, I suggest a contortionist drives. Stairs to get into the hotel from the car park which was fine for me but not for others. Check in was ok, less good was being told ‘I hope you’re fit, the lift isn’t working’. I think asked if they had room service and was greeted with a pained expression and the receptionist told me about a Wetherspoon round the corner. After navigating the labrynthine corridors of the hotel I found my room it was small and when I went to close the curtains I discovered part of the inner wall missing - a little worrying and not what you expect from a Mercure. I missed breakfast after discovering a complete absence of shampoo in the shower and having to use alternatives which is less than ideal as my scalp is sensitive. The room was ok overall the bed not great but it did a job.

Property itself was tired, although the room adequate. I was nervous in the area around the hotel - late-night revellers from the bar opposite, and no parking available without walking across the town.

Think before booking!
Had to change rooms as the first room wasn’t nice and so noisy as right opposite a busy pub and karaoke place! Staff were pleasant however the rooms are so hot so neither of us slept. The breakfast was really poor especially as one of us was gluten-free. Very little choice at all for them. Certainly not worth paying the money!

Terrible experience. Greeted on arrival by some guy in a checked shirt who was rude as hell. I felt like i had done wrong checking into a hotel i paid for. Room unclean it had not seen a hoover, rice on the floor still from previous accupent Brick dust on bathroom floor. Mold around window and in bathroom Stains on wall and ceiling Toilet roll holder broken and over all the room and hotel need a lot of TLC I CANT UPLOAD PICTURES FOR SOME REASON I WILL ON TRIP ADVISOR

Ok for the price. Bad mattress and humid in room
Friendly helpful staff, great centre location, adequate room. No ventilation so the bathroom made the room humid Extremely uncomfortable mattress. As others have said I can't see how this is a Mercure IE Hilton hotel. Very little parking so had to park at the Corn shopping centre parking that closes at 7pm so can't take the car out at night.

Our overnight in Darlington
Hotel was fine. Very central. Room was on the 3rd floor and after reading reviews about the lift not working I was thinking we would need to climb three flights but lift was working. We had a twin room which was fine. Very clean. Room was dimly lit even with bed lights and ceiling light on. Bathroom was clean and quite modern. Nice shower and lovely clean white towels. Soap dispenser didn’t work though. Bed was comfortable enough and felt very clean. Our room was to the back so not a very nice view but this didn’t bother us. Breakfast was included but we didn’t bother. Staff that we met were friendly.

Great Location
Hotel is perfectly located in the middle of the town and the car park whilst small was reasonably priced at £5 for the night. The receptionist was pleasant and checked us in quickly and off we went to our room. The room was a good size with a king bed but was warm due to this being an old building, although a fan is provided which helped a little. The bathroom whilst functional is a little dated and the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice for all pallettes.

Breakfast needs sorting out.
Fourth time we have stayed here and every time we have enjoyed it less and less. After we checked in we were told the 2nd to 4th floor lift was out of order so we had to walk up and down 6 flights of stairs every time we went anywhere ! Apparently we should have received an email informing us the lift was broken but we did not. Room was fine but a bit cramped compared to others we have had in this hotel. For some reason breakfast had been moved into the lounge bar area, odd but okay. Service was 7-10am, arrived at 9.20am (Sunday) and there was hardly anything left, no bacon, no sausage, no beans. The poor lad who was working (on his own) was running around like a headless chicken, eventually brought out 6 rashes of bacon and some sausages at about 9.45. Last time we stayed here it was a similar story at breakfast but hoped that that had been a one off (obvs not) We will stay here again as the hotel itself is nice and its location is brilliant but will probably not pay for breakfast and just go to Wetherspoons at the top of the street. Such a shame.

Payed for parking with no guarantee of a space. Extractor fan in bathroom not working (should be checked before room is booked out). Breakfast on first day you dont do fried eggs. Second breakfast had to wait 5 mjnuets for poached egg and when it arrived there was three eggs also sausage and bacon over cooked as for your rating of four stars i would say thats a joke. Also looked like ther was not enough staff to cover the desk and breakfast. WILL NOT STAY OR RECOMEND THIS HOTEL. Would rather go to Premier inn
