We will be back.
We arrived later than we thought. The young women working at the counter were so friendly and welcoming. The room was charming and comfortable. What was really wonderful is that although it is next to the highway, we didn't hear the road from inside our room. The view out our window was incredible. We will be staying again.

Fix the water problems
I have never checked into a motel/hotel where you were handed a gallon of bottled water because of the quality of the well water. I reserved most of the water to fill my water bottles for the next day leaving none for the coffee pot. Big mistake. The water made even the coffee barely tolerable. I could not even feel clean taking a shower. The soap never really washed off leaving a sticky feeling. Could not eat to get to my next hotel to use their shower. Nice location and helpful owner, but the water issues take away from the place.

The staff is so friendly and helpful. Thank you for making me feel at home! The view from our back patio of the lake was amazing! Great job on the landscaping and build out of the patios!

Fun lodge feel to our room. The main lodge room/lobby was great; filled with games, puzzles, books, and a pool table. Also had snacks, beverages and ice cream treats for sale which satisfied our cravings. We enjoyed sitting on the back patio of our room, that faced Lake Superior.

Quaint place, close to the water. The road noise can't be helped unless we stayed in one if the cottages closer to the water. However you can still hear the beautiful sounds of nature (waves rolling on the lake and birds singing).

The motel room was very clean. The view from the private deck was amazing. The staff friendly & helpful. Only complaint was the TV didn't work. I hope to come back & stay in one of the cabins right on the water. So beautiful & peaceful.

Great getaway on the lake Superior
Great cozy place to spend a few days on the lake. We used it as a base to explore Isle Royale and several fantastic State parks in the area. Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.

A Fun Oasis Inside Paradise
Solbakken Resort was a comfortable stay with a great view of Lake Superior. It's close to Grand Marais and a lot of restaurant and activity options. We only stayed for the night but I would love to come back and spend more time here. We happened to be there when there was quite the weather storm coming through. Since we aren't from this part of the U.S. the flash flood warnings had us concerned. But the Solbakken sits in a safe area and there was no impact by the rains. Other stretches along highway 61 weren't so lucky. We spent the evening in the main lodge playing pool and enjoying the hot cocoa. The rooms have a kitchenette and there's access to fire pits, grills, and relaxing private patios. Like I said, I would love to comeback and spend more days here!
