Location is stellar. Front desk staff was not helpful. We checked to see if we could check in early and couldn’t find anyone to assist us. When someone did show up they said our room wasn’t ready which was fine. They said it would be ready in 20 minutes and they would call us. An hour later we checked back after no call and our room was ready. The staff did not tell us the doors locked at 8pm. I went outside to get something out of the car at 8:10pm and the doors were locked. There were 2 people at the front desk and an employee in the lobby, I knocked multiple times to have them let in but they only looked at me. Finally after 3 tries they let me in. Definitely not a customer friendly front desk.

Clean, well- kept, updated. We checked in late but they had a good system in place to make that easy for us because they don't have 24 hr staff. Wish this hotel could share the pool and fitness room that is at the other hotel on Lutsen property. The front desk only spoke Spanish. At least I knew enough from high school to remember how to ask what the date was.

Beware of 8pm check in cutoff time
I saw in the check instructions that check in time was 4-8pm. Not a big deal, until it took longer than we expected at dinner. That was a minor ordeal in itself. Tuesdays in the summer seem to a problem for any restaurant within 10 miles. The Cascade was open uuntil 8pm. Anyways, it said to call the hotel if you are going to be late. Called at 7:45. Voicemail. Arrived at 8:00. No one was at the desk. Called the number again. Phone rang at the front desk. No one came to answer it. Called the number for the other "sister hotel." Voicemail. No bell to ring. About 10 minutes later a lady came out from the back. She was nice, but the whole situation was uncomfortable and seems like it could have been avoidable. The rest of our stay was flawless.
