Accommodation In Phu Quoc
Wot about a sunny escape to Vietnam's largest island? When you stay in one of our Phu Quoc hotels, you'll bask in the uncrowded tranquility of this little beach paradise, which is largely undeveloped and in its natural state, thanks to the beautiful Phu Quoc National Park taking up 70% of the island.
History
Located just south of the Cambodian border, Cambodians actually claim the island is theirs, but the French granted it to Vietnam in 1949. To get an idea of how closely the Vietnamese guard this island treasure, go and check out the huge military base at the north end of Phu Quoc.
Things to do
Laze about on the main waterfront area, Long Beach and watch the spectacular sunsets on the west coast. Go kayaking, snorkelling and scuba diving or just settle for a relaxing massage on the beach. Sao Beach on the east coast is a bit harder to get to but if you don't mind an adventure through the jungle, the beautiful sandy shores are worth it.
Spend some time exploring the island's main town, Duong Dong before hitting up nearby Truong Beach or head south and hang out in the small fishing village of An Thoi.
If you get sick of the beaches (is that even possible?), you could always chill out along the Suoi Da Ban River, which has some beautiful waterfalls in the vicinity plus pepper and cashew plantations to check out.
Shopping and dining
The Duong Dong Market is the best place to pick up fresh produce and souvenirs, but you'll be able to grab some trinkets at the Night Market too. Make sure you also visit one of the pearl farms while you're here and take home a pretty string of pearls.
When it comes to dining, seafood is the main fare around here and it's fresher than fresh! The locals are famous for the fish sauce they make plus they grow black pepper on the island, so expect your meals to be seasoned with both.
Getting here and around
The best way to get here is to book one of these cheap flights to Ho Chi Minh City and then catch an internal flight from Ho Chi Minh City. Alternatively, you can take a fast boat from Rach Gia but make sure you purchase your tickets ahead of time because they sell out pretty quickly. Once you arrive, you're best off hiring a motorbike to get around as the local bus service isn't very reliable.
