I had a lovely vacation at Naqalia Lodge. From the moment I arrived at the Lautoka boat dock, Bill, his brother, his wife welcomed me with open arms, making me feel like part of their Fijian family. Sia was a wonderful host throughout my visit, and Oni's incredible cooking was a definite highlight. Her delicious and original vegetarian meals were so good that guests (including this one) ask for her secret recipes. And Stubby, their adorable dog, was also a joy to have around and added to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. He even welcomed me as I stepped out of the boat. The experience is minimalist with cold showers and solar power, but when staying in Paradise - isn't that all you need? Oh, and don't miss the morning sunrise hike where you'll be greeted with breathtaking South Pacific views. If you're looking for an authentic, rustic stay with genuine hospitality and character, stay here.

Family of 6.
Absolutely wonderful. This lodge is run by an amazing fiji family. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Nothing was too much. The cabins were very cute, and so much love put into them. A beautiful welcome message in the bed, and flowers we felt the fiji spirit here. Location was gorgeous. Snorkeling was beautiful. Hike up the mountain to watch the sunrise was lovely. Kids enjoyed volleyball with the Fijian family daily. Snorkeling with the sharks was one of the best experiences ever, and in one of the most spectacular reefs I've seen. 10/10. My son and husband went fishing and also had a great time. We got taught how to do fijian dancing, and that was so much fun, had a bonfire on the beach that was magical, and even got to drink kava with the family. If you are after a true fijian homestay type holiday, then this is the place to visit. Drink coconuts, sleep in hammocks, be in fiji time from the moment you arrive. Will definitely stay here again. Really loved our 3 nights, 4 days here.

I went to this island to hike to the peak and go diving with the sharks. I was told I wasn’t ‘allowed’ to hike alone as it was too dangerous and if anything happened I would be responsible for them being shut down. I’m a skilled hiker and an adult and this felt like an invasion of my freedom to make my own decisions. I was watched constantly and felt like I had no privacy and they constantly tried to sell me on their tours. For someone who wanted this it may have been ok but I just wanted some privacy and independence to do what I wanted. Further, I was the only guest and they sang to me and watched me eat at every meal. It was very awkward. The welcome was nice but it all felt very contrived and I told them I don’t want it or enjoy it. I asked them to leave me during meals or join me to talk, which may have been better, but they insisted on singing and sitting across the room watching while I ate alone. When I left they set up a sales table outside my hut and tried to charge me extra for my dive tour which is always paid for. I was very glad to get out of there and will never be back. Unfortunate because the property was beautiful and their dog was really cute. There was a young couple that was quite nice but the all round vibe was icky, restrictive and pressure sales. Yuck. I’ve heard that different families take turns running the facility so perhaps it will be different if you go. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if all their energies hadn’t been focused on me.

A great place to stay!
Highly recommend! This is a wonderful Homestay. The food is great and plentiful, feeding sharks was amazing, good snorkeling, and most prominent the family that runs it are truly lovely, wonderful people. They were super caring, helpful and fun people to stay with. Our best experience with Homestay on our holiday in Fiji. The facilities are like most homestays simple. Not always good reception, but possible to pay for internet there. We lived in dorms and had a good time, a bit run down, but quite clean. All in all, thank you for having us, we had a great time!

True Island Living
If you want a luxury, stay this is not it. However this is as close to authentic Fiji island living as you can find. All the staff are part of the same family and you become part of it. The snorkeling off the beach was really good, the beach beautiful and they offer daily free snorkel trips to show you the best spots. An amazing unique experience 100% recommended.

This is more of a homestay which is good for backpackers, rather than a resort. The family who run the property are really nice and accommodating. The meals are basic and quite bland but you are encouraged to eat a lot, which would suit hungry backpackers. There was an overbooking on the night we arrived and we were put into the locals hut, rather than the beach hut that we had booked and paid for. This locals hut was not clean, did not have running water for most of the evening so we couldn’t flush the toilet or have water to brush out teeth etc, and was not at all similar to the photos of the hut that we had booked. After we complained, we were then told that we were in there due to the overbooking. It was upsetting and disappointing to have been put in that room and not told there was an overbooking etc. as we felt otherwise we would have be len in there for 3 nights. We got moved into the beach hut that we had booked the following night and we were given shark snorkeling for free, but no other discount for the bad experience.

Friendly local run small scale resort.
Only four bures and a dormitory so it’s not full of different people, it’s very friendly and you often have the whole beach to yourself😊. We stayed five nights so had plenty of time to relax and also do the shark tour and hike. There is good snorkelling with coral and a variety of fish about 50m off the beach at high tide. The generator only runs 6pm to 6am so the bathroom which had no windows was a bit dark. Cold showers were fine. We enjoyed the beautiful environment and lovely local people. Thank you to Mary for helping us settle in and making our stay very enjoyable.

Amazing experience
I took my 11 and 13 yr old nieces to Naqalia for one night to experience the islands and we did not want to leave. We had come from the Sofitel in Denarau and while that is a lovely resort it didn’t feel like we were in Fiji, Naqalia changed that for us. Yes the accommodation is budget but it is clean and the welcoming is warm and makes you feel part of a family. They were so thoughtful and patient with the kids when we did the sunset hike and went snorkelling, we did not want to leave and are already planning our trip back, hopefully in a year. The girls can’t stop going on about the Fijian family they had so much fun with. Thank you so much to all of you, we can’t remember all of your names but we can’t wait to see you all again.

Wow I was so pleaseantly supprised . Its those little things that make a difference. Kava ceremony nightly were we laughed the night away. The food was simple but nice. It was served as a buffet style where you can help yourself Great home stay and keep it up. Vinaka Jackie Chan

Rustic opportunity to disconnect
These accommodations are much more rustic/primitive than I was led to expect based on the online reviews that I read. There is no hot water available and the water that is available in the bures and dorm is rainwater straight from the collection barrels. Electricity is offered thru only part of the day and WiFi is available during those times at an additional charge ($25us for 24hrs). The WiFi (as expected) was very weak and unreliable. Drinking water is available for sale in the main bure as well as several other drink options. Three plentiful meals per day were prepared and included in the price we paid but if you need snacks you should bring them as there is no place near to buy such items. The meals were tasty but alternative options were not offered. If you have specific dietary needs make sure that you express those needs well in advance of your stay and bring options with you. The people who run the Lodge are wonderful, happy, gregarious people who welcome you with a hospitality and joy. This is a perfect spot to relax and disconnect from the stresses of modern society. Expect to pay extra for most activities. Activities we paid extra for were: jewelry making/weaving, kayaks ($10us per hour), shark swimming/feeding ($30us). Lots of backpackers come and go from this Lodge as it offers a dormitory option. This was a once in a lifetime experience for us. We very much enjoyed the Fijian people & the hospitality shown to us during our trip.

Genuine fiji experience.
I travelled there with my wife and 2 daughters (12,9) for 4 nights. When we arrived we received a welcome song on the beach. We were startled by their warmth and kindness. After and introduction we were taken to our Bure. Which was very basic but after an initial adjustment perfectly comfortable. The ocean was our constant companion. Whether it was watching "ocean TV" from our veranda or listening to the waves crash on the beach at night. Highlights included the free snorkelling and kava gatherings in the evening. In fact we enjoyed all the activities. The thing that really makes it special is the way they make you feel part of the family and will do anything to make your stay more fun and fulfilling. The food is made and served with love. Thanks to Mary and the kitchen staff. Take some snacks with you for between meals and/or ask the staff for a refreshing coconut. We will miss this place and never forget their generousity and kindness.

Vinaka !
