The main problem was that our room was not ready when we arrived, admittedly early. When we checked back, shortly after check in time, still not ready. We had planned to eat dinner there, but left to see some of the waterfront and got the call 15 minutes later. The room was mostly fine but the back window let in a lot of light, and the bathroom fan wasn’t functioning. No result from a call to the front desk. Overall, the room was comfortable and the bath towels thick and new.

Our room was not ready at 4 pm when we arrived and we waited an hour til it was ready. Considering the high cost, it prevented us from using the hotel in prime time. A garbage can bear our room was overflowing with garbage for our entire stay. Seems poorly managed.

It has gone downhill since we were last there. The food was poor and we waited 2 hours to be served. We waited 45 minutes to be received at the front desk. We were sent to a room where the battery in the door entry was dead. This was confirmed by the maintenance staff after we had a further 20 minute wait. we were upgraded 20 minutes later.

I was there for 6 days nobody ever came to clean the room same sheet same towels no shampoo no coffee cup garbage full, I travel all over the world I never saw a poor hotel like painters believe me I will never recommend or stay there again, it’s shameful,

Unfortunately this was one of the worst experiences from check in through to check out. The food was bad, the service well they tried but were so few, and so unprofessional. I would never ever stay here again.

Annual Trip to Campbell River and Nootka Sound.
Its sad how much this famous hotel we have stayed at many times in the past, has gone so much downhill. I don’t normally write reviews like this but the owners need to see this. The overall look of the hotel is sad. 9 of us arrive and our bookings are a mess. Had to wait in the bar for a couple hours before our rooms were ready. Service good but food was uber greasy. They messed up one of the double rooms for one of my group so one ended up on a pull out. The once great restaurant is now not even owned by the hotel. You have to pay $18 for breakfast - the quality a slight upgrade from a Holiday Inn. The restaurant is not open every night anymore. They no longer have the water taxi to Quadra Island. Water sports availablity seemed extremely limited. The jacuzzi was locked with plywood over it, only the pool was open. Internet was spotty and at least one of the room phones did not work. And the topper, they called "last call" for drinks at 8:30 .....on a Saturday night. I want to maks it clear that none of my complaints involve the staff. They are dealing with what they have. I would avoid this historic location until there is substantial renovation and upgrade of onsite services
