Accommodation In Delhi
If you want to see India, wot better place to start than Delhi? Home to the national capital of New Delhi, it’s one of the world’s most populous regions – and its city streets reflect that. Cars, motorbikes and tuk-tuks compete for space on the busy roads as food vendors ply their trade on the side. Modern-day cafes and restaurants filled with delicious food are only a short distance from extravagant temples and monuments that really have to be seen to be believed. With English, Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi all spoken here, Delhi’s language and culture are as diverse as its sights, sounds and range of activities. It can be overwhelming at first, but it’s an experience you won’t soon forget. Book your Delhi hotel with us and discover this city’s history – because there sure is a lot to what you see here!
Delhi isn’t just one Delhi. It includes the regions of New Delhi and Old Delhi as well as surrounding cities like Gurgaon. In some form or another, Delhi has been around for a long time. Legend says it was the site of Indraprastha, the mythical home of the Pandavas, in the Mahabharata Sanskrit holy book. One thing’s for sure – over the centuries it has seen its share of rulers and battles. In 1869, emporer Shah Jahan built a walled-in city which is now known as Old Delhi. The British Raj built New Delhi in the early 20th century.
You’ll want to have your camera ready for Delhi’s range of eye-popping sights. The India Gate in the heart of the city is India’s national monument. Standing 42 metres high, it’s a shrine to the many soldiers who lost their lives during World War I. The Lotus Temple, a Bahá'í House of Worship, is a giant white flower surrounded by clear blue pools that draws around 8,000 to 10,000 visitors a day. The Red Fort, built by the Mughal in 1638, is a red sandstone compound in Old Delhi. It was intended to keep out intruders, but it won’t keep out you! If you admire Mahatma Gandhi, pay your tributes at Raj Ghat, the memorial built at the site of his cremation. And just a couple of hours from New Delhi in Uttar Pradesh is India’s most mind-blowing mausoleum – the white marble wonder known as the Taj Mahal.
Although it will never be the party capital of the world, Delhi has its share of nightlife from sports bars to cocktail lounges, and those looking to do a little socialising won’t be left wanting.
Delhi’s shopping is endless and offers something for everyone, ranging from large malls to roadside markets where you can haggle for traditional Indian handicrafts. And what trip to Delhi would be complete without a trip to some New Delhi restaurants, which don’t just serve Indian food but instead keep things interesting with a range of dishes from around the world.
Sure, you can find food, history and shopping anywhere, but there’s no other place quite like India. Book your Delhi accommodation and flights with us and broaden your horizons.
