But it’s not all about the views, though they are magnificent. The charming villages complete the region, full of artisan stores, cute cafes, local galleries and gourmet produce. Around Tamborine Mountain, which was once a giant volcano, you’ll find a number of wineries and the award-winning Tamborine Mountain Distillery which offers a great range of liqueurs and spirits. Fresh local produce is often on sale at farm and village stalls dotted throughout the countryside. Getting to the Gold Coast Hinterlands is easy from the Gold Coast and there are well marked signs to help you find the half-hour journey. It could take longer depending on which particular area you want to explore. The hinterlands are also easily accessible from nearby Brisbane, in just over an hour, and from northern NSW towns down towards Byron Bay.
