Haven: Ruapehu Accommodation - great value

Plenty of room, Freeview TV, great woodburner, home theatre, awesome drying room and NO BUNKS. Come and make the most of the "Adventure Plateau", with Haven as your base. In Spring/Summer you can sit out on the large deck and watch the sun go down over the flowering dogwoods, with the river babbling in the background and warbling tui's and bellbird's doing their last rounds. When it gets cooler, snuggle up around the fire with a glass of mulled wine and a good book, play cards or bring along your favourite DVD movies.

For the more active, Haven is nestled between the world heritage Tongariro National Park, Tongariro Forest Park, and only a stones throw away from the Whanganui National Park, Haven offers an awesome base for your Central Plateau adventures.

Raurimu is home to the world famous Raurimu Spiral (2nd level visible from the front porch), and is only 20 mins to Whakapapa ski field, 40 mins to Turoa ski field, and about 20 mins to the nationally renowned Taumarunui Golf Course.

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is rated the best one day trek in New Zealand, and listed by many as one of the top-ten day treks in the world. Haven is the perfect base for the Crossing, where shuttles to pick you up and drop you off at the start and end of the track, are available from National Park only 5 min drive away. You could prepare your meal in the slow-cooker before you leave, and have it ready and waiting for you when you return.

But wait, there's more (sorry, no Ginsu knives), Central Plateau offers the best mountain biking in the North Island (42nd Traverse, Fishers Track, John MacDonald Loop), skiing, snow boarding, mountain climbing, hot pools (Tokaanu), climbing wall, trout fishing, horse riding, quad biking, paintball, tramping, kayaking, rafting, scenic flights, natural history, hiking, canoeing, easy day walks, art and crafts, restaurants, pubs, Lord of the Rings filming locations, Waiouru Army Museum, Tongariro Crossing, summit climbs, bird watching.
Special conditions:
Two night minimum.
Bed linen available upon request - $20 / night - must be washed and dried before departure.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels), take your rubbish and recycling away with you.

Base for biking
We used this property as a base to bike the Kaimanawa Descent and the 42nd traverse. The lounge fire and the bench table were highlights for our team. The information provided was comprehensive and we found everything we needed to know.

Quick get away
The house was great for us, we had 9 in total. Big family dinner around the kitchen dining table and then down to the other end of the house to the fireplace in the lounge. Good supply of wood and we left the wood box full. Quite reasonable price compared to some of the other options.

Great value, comfy with lots of space
Lots of room and beds, within 20 min drive of Whakapapa. The place was a bit run down but nothing too bad. All perfectly comfortable. The big fire place was really nice in the evenings. Though the matches didn't work, which may indicate a dampness issue. (Could be worth investing in an HRV?)

Had a great stay, plenty of room and beds for our family. Fireplace was amazing however was not cleaned out but not a big deal. And the dry room was perfect for our wet weather/snow gears and boots. Short drive to the mountains. Will definitely be back again. Thank you.
