Accommodation In Sendai
According to Sendai’s residents, this large city in the Tōhoku region of Japan’s Honshu Island has found that perfect Goldilocks spot. It isn’t too big or too small. Its weather isn’t too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer, and it’s just close enough to the mountains and the sea. Ready to find out if this vibrant city is just right for you? So are we. Let’s go!
Things to Do in Sendai
A great place to start your holiday is the crumbling Sendai Castle ruins and its neighbour, the Sendai City Museum. Here you can learn about the city’s roots and its famous samurai founder, Date Masamune. Want to know even more about Date? Drop by for a visit at the Zuihō-den, Masamune’s mausoleum.
Don’t get trapped in the past too long. Walk into the present and bring your credit card to the pedestrian friendly Clis Road, the city’s main shopping district. Your in-laws will appreciate the city’s famous Sendai hira silk as a souvenir.
If you can, visit Sendai in early August. It may be more challenging to book Sendai hotels, but the effort will be worth it, as the city hosts one of the most famous festivals in the country, the Tanabata Matsuri. The entire city turns out to celebrate with streamers and huge paper decorations. Now that’s a party!
Getting to & Around Sendai
Sendai is roughly 360 km from the country’s capital city, Tokyo. If you happen to be holidaying in Tokyo, you can easily turn Sendai into a weekend trip by taking the Tōhoku Shinkansen bullet train. Another option is to fly into Sendai Airport (SDJ). Once you’ve made it to your Sendai accommodation, you’ll find the best modes of transportation to be the subway and the bus.
You don’t have to spend hours searching for a price that is just right for hotels in Sendai. Instead, use Wotif to grab amazing deals on Sendai holiday packages. If Sendai is just one stop on a bigger holiday to Tokyo, you can also find great pricing on flights and hotels in Tokyo too!
