In the day time, you can head to the Newark Museum, which is actually a museum combined with art galleries, science exhibitions, a planetarium, a miniature zoo, beautiful gardens and a cafe.

Even beach bums are catered for in New Jersey. All you have to do is head to Surf City - a little island just off the coast, which boasts some gorgeous untouched beaches - and you'll be surfing some great waves in no time.

Further south, you can hit the bustling seaside streets of Atlantic City and try your luck in one of the casinos. Atlantic City is famous for its fine dining restaurants, high-end fashion and luxurious day spas, so if you're after a day of pampering, you've come to the right place.

If you're traveling around the states, you'll find it easy to get to New Jersey by plane, train, coach bus or even ferry but once you're here, you'll probably find it easiest to get around by hire car. Don't forget that New Jersey is just south of the New York State border and you can easily make a quick trip to New York City by taking the two hour drive from the border. Catching a ferry to the Big Apple is also an option but it will take quite a while longer.
