My family of 5 stayed at this Riu in December of 2020 and again in December 2024. We love that the resort is small enough that walking from our room to the beach to restaurants for meals isn’t a long task, yet the resort is big enough to feel luxurious. The staff were the most upbeat, friendly staff you could ask for. Always smiling, providing drinks, and fun activities from games on the beach to diving contests in the pool and water Zumba. Each morning a yoga class was provided. There’s always something going on to help you stay entertained. Early each morning you can find the staff hard at work to scrub every square foot of the property. It was immaculate. We went kyaking, parasailing, and snorkeling right off the beach. If I had to say anything somewhat negative it would the beds. In 2020 they provided king beds but in 2024 they put two full size beds together. They kept separating and moving. Not the most comfortable sleeping arrangement. However, that’s okay, just nap on the beach!! Overall I love this resort. Worked out really well for having young children (4 & 6 in 2020 and 8 & 10 in 2024) so that we didn’t have to walk far and I felt very self allowing them to explore the resort without me.

It takes 22 hours from check in to get ordinary room what we paid for. First one was in the attics with like jail house windows , second had dirty , stain sheets and finally we got our room after fitting 22 hours with reception staff.. Terrible welcome from Riu Playacar

L’hôtel ne devrait pas avoir 5 étoiles. La nourriture était en deçà de mes attentes et ils n’ont pas de vrai couteau à steak pour la viande coriace! Pour le reste, la plage est magnifique et le personnel assez agréable et aidant (malgré que la majorité soit unilingue espagnole).

The property is well maintained. The rooms are a little outdated but super clean, comfortable beds, dependable hot water supply, rather quiet air condition, equipped with everything you need while on holidays. During our sty, the staff made all efforts to organize entertainment during the each day and create a festive atmosphere, as it was close to Christmas. The food was very tasty (better than all inclusive average) and rather good selection. This resort was a good choice although it was not the best we’d ever stayed at, but we did have a good time and no regrets.

The location, beach and pools were great, food was average in comparison with other all inclusive resorts. The one complaint that I would have is that the rooms are not family friendly at all. There’s no door on the bathroom so if you aren’t a couple, people can’t even change or shower with any privacy. The beds were also quite small for two people. If you are planning to take your kids with you, I’d stay somewhere else.

The front desk/reception are not very helpful if you book through Expedia! The liquor and beer options are sub standard. 3 of us got severe food poisoning and the hotel doesn’t have a doctor and were not willing to accept their food could be contaminated. We saw few other folks throwing up too. I would never book a place like this again. Avoid it! Worst experience I have had in my life and this is the first time I got food poisoning, go to Mexico at least 4 times a year but stay in Airbnbs and eat in restaurants!

Enjoyed our stay. Good food. Staff friendly and helpful. Resort amenities were okay (nightly entertainment was not great). Was able to use the hobicat at no cost. The ice machine in our building broke within the first few days of a 2 week vacation that wasn’t repaired. There was a working machine in the next building literally 30 seconds further.

Save your money and look for another resort. Here is my first ever review of a resort: Rooms updated and clean Beach: great Pools: awesome Landscaping and resort areas: nice Food: terrible, my wife had diarrhea 5 out of the six days, I had food poisoning, and suffered from projectile vomiting and diarrhea 2 out of the 6 days. So all the niceties won’t matter if you cannot enjoy your stay. And we are very selective as to what we eat in an all inclusive resort: we stay away from all cheeses, dressings, seafood, and try to stick to the basics: grilled food, etc. I’ve traveled over 40 times to such resorts and this is the first time I have felt this awful - this was the vacation from hell.
