The room they gave us should not be use. Two outlets in all of the room and bathroom, bed was a board with hard thing resembling a mattress, heater broke. Just awful.

The gentleman at check-in was rude. Tried telling me they couldn't take my debit card even though it was the one that I used to reserve the room and they had already taken the payment for the first night out of it. The room had horrible lighting. Was very dark unless you had both lights in the room and the light in the bathroom on at the same time. The ceiling in the bathroom next to the sink was peeling. The sheets and blankets had burn holes in them and the one visible outlet wasn't working so we had to pull the mattress down a little bit to use the one available to charge our phones. The wifi was spotty and was constantly cutting off and coverage for our phones all together was horrible.

The Surf Motel is basic acomodation. It delivers exactly what you'd expect. The room was very functional, somewhat old, but ok. the price was good, the car was safe.

My reasoning in picking out this specific location was for the parking. Parking is limited but I had no issues considering my stay was during the weekdays & not on the weekends when it’s busiest. Personally I loved the location, very close to fisherman’s wharf, marina district, pier39, etc. A bus stop is also located directly in front of the motel which was able to take me straight into China Town. Another aspect I focused on was making sure the motel was in a safer area. Not once did I feel unsafe walking late at night in this area & around it, I was out outside every night during my 4 night stay up until 11pm-12am. 1 being the worst & 10 being the best, I would give room 309 a 6. No complementary toilet trees, no hair dryer, & no coffee or coffee pot. Also the towels are very small. I would recommend if you are trying to budget & want to be in a nice safe area.

Place was OK for a budget motel. Wifi does not work for streaming of any sort. Brought my firestick hoping my streaming services would work... Nope. When tried with my mobile device later, it wouldnt even "surf". Couldnt even check my email on their wifi. Had to use my providers internet. Whatever. Elevator scared us enough off the first run that we wouldnt take it again. We weren't sure it was gonna let us go so we walked every other time. Beds were ok. Not bad nor good. Rooms were like a 70s motel. Attempts have been made to update them, but not enough effort. The TV was small for the room. Fridge has been in there for 10 years and been abused. AC unit ran, but it wasnt cold. Could hear the people next door easily. Especially since they just screwed a amoure to the door between the rooms to prevent that. Possitives include Mels diner and Home Plate a block or so away. Its a cheap (especially for SF) crash pad, hot showers, and its walkable to the warf and bridge IF youre willing to put in some steps. Its also far enough away that after midnight its very quiet, but loud come 8am. Not their fault. Not a lot to do close by for night life. But good area for breakfast, and just close enough to the warf if you're willing to walk 20 minutes without too much up and down. About a 6 overall.

I accidentally booked a king sized "smoking" room. It was my own mistake. Even counting that, the rooms are run down, the HVAC filters were filthy (I asked them to clean them and then did but it took 2 days.) There was a .5" gap under the door leading outside. The "blanket" was a thin sheet and the extra blanket in the closet was very gross looking and was saturated with smoke smell. The bathroom didn't have a working fan or a window. Everything was kind of slimy/tacky from smoking.

Easy access to transit, the location has a great selection of eats, drinks & shopping. There is parking if needed. The motel staff were nice and accommodating, the room was about as expected, the bed wasn’t the most comfortable and no fan in the bathroom. The key card issue really needs to be addressed.
