From the very beginning of our stay, we encountered multiple issues with our room. Both the sink and shower were clogged, which we immediately reported to the staff. While they addressed the clogs, the shower began emitting a foul odor that persisted for four days. Despite our efforts to endure the smell, it became unbearable, and I returned to the service desk to explain the situation. Eventually, I was referred to a supervisor. While she did switch our room, the process was a complete mess. We had to wait to check out of our old room and check into the new one. Transferring our luggage between rooms caused us to miss yet another event we had planned, adding to the growing list of frustrations. Altogether, we wasted about four days dealing with room or hotel-related issues. On top of that, the room setup was highly uncomfortable. There were three adults in our party, and we were given twin beds instead of the double beds advertised on their website. Sleeping in such cramped conditions was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life. Unfortunately, the new room was no better. It was filthy, with wood shavings and other debris on the floor. The beds weren’t properly made, and the pillows were smashed and flat, unlike the pillows from our first room. It felt like they had given us someone else’s dirty room. The overall atmosphere at the resort was also disappointing—most of the staff seemed to be in bad moods, starting with Ricardo at the service desk.

Not truly all inclusive. Fees for simple things. For example, fees for using the steam room and the sauna. The $45 fee is for every 1 hour. Fee for basic SAKE at the Japanese restaurant. Fees and more fees. The room refrigerator NEVER worked. We complained everyday. 5 days without a working mini refrigerator. Nothing was done about this. No food service at all outside of the buildings. For example, can’t eat fries, burgers, tacos on the beach. Guests are prohibited from taking food outside the building dining areas. This really means that the guests have to get dressed just to eat a simple snack and then go back outdoors. This is complicated, specially on vacation. All the other resorts always have snack bars accessible from the beach and pool area. Another example, drinks are not served on the beach. NO SERVICE ON THE BEACH. Every time we were thirsty, we had to walk from the beach to the pool side bar. There are only drinks at the pool side bar. No peanuts, olives, pretzels….. We will not stay at this resort again. Too complicated for a vacation.

The property is beautiful—really well-maintained and in great shape. However, the restaurant reservation process was a hassle. You have to wait in a long line to make reservations, and it seemed to frustrate pretty much everyone we talked to. That said, the à la carte restaurants were delicious, and while some hostesses were more flexible with walk-ins than others, we appreciated the ones who went out of their way to accommodate us.

We have stayed at both ends of the Barcelo and have enjoyed both. The palace end is better if you want to snorkel with the turtles. The adults only, definitely has a better buffet and is more spacious. There is definitely not a bad choice among the 6 resorts. The biggest difference you will notice is dining out. If you stay at the riviera/adults you can make reservations at any restaurant. If you stay at the palace you can dine out at any restaurant except the adults only. The adults only side is very large so be prepared for a long walk depending on where your room is. Our room was at the beach end on the back side which was very quiet and secluded. We still had an ocean view although you had to look past an old dilapidated resort that was in ruins. The room we had was nice but could have used a little sprucing up. The bed was comfortable and HUGE ( I actually measured it and it was approximately 8’4” wide ). We like the ocean and the beach so we never got in the pool but they looked very nice. The staff is super nice and helpful. We never had to stand in line to eat at the buffet and the resort was very full during our visit between Christmas and New Year’s. All in all we would highly recommend staying here.

While the hotel is nice and the staff are polite and accommodating, I am not a fan of all inclusive resorts that try to upcharge at every turn. There is no reason why we should be paying for room service, activities on the property, or for the nightlife. None of these additional charges were made known to us when we were booking our stay, and we were quite surprised to learn about them upon our arrival. While the hotel does offer free room service to their premium level of guests, it does not make sense for us to pay an additional $30 per day for this. Again, we were not aware of this “premium” upgrade until we arrived at the resort. Additionally, their shuttle service was late to pick us up for our airport drop off and we cut it very close to our departure time.

The activities staff—Fernanda, Maria, Fatima, Ireli, and Irving—went above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable with their boundless energy and enthusiasm. From Latin dancing to Zumba and aerobics, every activity was engaging and so much fun! The food was simply outstanding, offering a wide variety of delicious options to satisfy every taste—there was truly something for everyone. And the beach and pools? Breathtaking! Crystal-clear waters, soft, powdery sand, and impeccably maintained pools created the ultimate tropical escape. I can’t recommend this resort enough for anyone seeking a perfect blend of relaxation and liveliness. An easy 10/10 experience!
