Accommodation In Otago
It’s hard to describe just how beautiful Central Otago is, but scenes from the Lord of the Rings films were shot here, which might give you some idea. Its landscape consists of brown and orange flat plains embedded with crystal blue lakes that sit under jagged snow-topped mountains. As you might imagine, the region is a paradise for skiers, but wine-lovers, outdoorsy types, extreme sports enthusiasts and even the most casual travelers will also fall for this incredible place. Why not stay with us in one of our Central Otago hotels?
Skiing in Central Otago
Travelers who plan on skiing in Central Otago will truly be spoilt for choice. You can head for the slopes of the The Remarkables mountain range overlooking Queenstown, where different levels of terrain caters to all skiers from beginners to advanced. A half pipe and tubing park throw in some extra adrenaline pumping snow activities. For those arriving late in the season, Coronet Peak often keeps its snow past mid-October. Perfect for those who want a holiday without the crowds!
Other amazing ski slopes can be found near Wanaka, north of Queenstown and off the northwest edge of Central Otago. Beginners will still feel right at home but this area is ripe for advanced skiers and snowboarders, with 19 advanced slopes in Treble Cone, heli-skiing available if you feel like splurging for the ultimate ride, and also plenty of off-piste trails to discover.
Of course, when all that snow melts, the terrain really shows its true colours in more ways than one. The spectacular landscape glows with lush greenery and tones of brown, and the warm temperatures allow you to enjoy outdoor activities like white water rafting, skydiving, mountain biking, paragliding and more. Wot more could you want?
If you’re looking for more of a laid back holiday, Central Otago’s provides vast golf courses, wineries and fruit picking at local orchards. Whether you’re exploring the limits of your body, or searching for some relaxation, the quiet and charming rural towns of Cromwell and Alexandra will keep you dreaming. Check out our range of Central Otago accommodation and get ready for a holiday to remember.
