Writing this review with a heavy heart. We were previous occupants at this hotel back in 2022 and had an amazing experience. Now visiting again in 2024 it was a more than disappointing experience.
The staff was invisible after ringing the bell multiple times for maintenance. We stayed 5 nights with no maid service in sight, after requesting new towels, sheets, etc.
Toilet was out of order for our room and weren’t offered any accommodations. Staff said they’d have a plumber come out and fix it the following day… no plumber came!
Cleanliness of our room was poor. Hair was everywhere in the bathroom, on the floor, sink, shower… even in the bed! Bathroom smelled of mold and mildew.
The only redeeming factor was the location of this place. Right next to the tube and near many food options/ attractions.
For the price, you get what you get.
Bedbugs everywhere (yes we have photos) - forced to leave early into multi-day stay. Staff non-existent. Management unresponsive to email, phone, and Expedia. Bedbugs so bad that it required visit to doctor, prescription steroids, destruction of some luggage, enormous cleaning expense. No refund.
Read other reviews of bed bugs and dirt and was concerned - stayed on top floor: it was clean, no trace of pests. The bathroom was a retro 80s set up, nothing to fault. You pay for what you get: the Russell is basic but ideal for seeing London. Stayed in far more expensive places that have been far worse.
This is truly a case of you get what you pay for. This is a cheaper “hotel” in a great area that’s near everything and shares a wall with a station, so if you’re spending 5%of your time or less in your room this is the place for you.
It looked like it was stuck in the 1980s, which wouldn’t be an issue except it felt like the last time it was cleaned was the 1980s. This is not your traditional hotel and more of an air bnb situation with the hotel owners only interacting with you is to give you the key.
Every hard surface had clearly not been wiped down in some time, and the quality of toilet paper, towels, etc left room for improvement. There is also a hostel on the first floor which made the hotel price seem high considering the only different is a in unit private bathroom that cannot fit more than one person at a time. There is no AC as well and the rooms get hot quickly from the shower so be prepared to keep windows open. Appliances were run down and poor quality.
Overall, this truly is a case of you get what you pay for. If you want a traditional hotel and can spend $200+ a night then this is the place for you, otherwise look elsewhere.
P.S. we saw previous reviews regarding bed bugs, we scoured the mattresses when we arrived and didn’t see any/this was not an issue for us.
This is not a hotel, it’s basically a room that was rented. There’s no service, no amenities, we took out our garbage after a few days. It’s hot and tiny for three people. It was a great location, and quiet. It’s cheaper than most “hotels” in London but there are reasons why it’s cheaper.

Our room was a triple with a shared bathroom. This room is not shown on the website BEWARE. This room is more like a hostel not hotel. There is no air, no fridge, no tv remote. No coffee, kettle or anything. The bedroom is not a solid door so lights go on and off all night as people come and go. Beds are horribly hard. The shared bathroom we had was the pink one shown on the website and the pictures make it look good. It is not. However there is a 25 hour store across the street to get what you need. The location is good. 15 minute walk to the train station and the tube is right next door. If you are looking for a very basic no amenities room this would be for you
Ideal for a one- nighter, comfortable but basic. Let down by difficulty in communication! Their idea of 24 hour reception is going outside and ringing the doorbell to get attention! Their phone number on the website is invalid and they don't respond to messages via the website either so that was frustrating when I was trying to ensure that I could leave my bag prior to check-in
The property was not what it appeared to be in photos, and there was a bad odor that was helped by opening the window and blowing the fan. Toilet seat was broken and the overhead light failed to illuminate at times.
We needed to add a room to our reservations and made a mistake when booking this hotel because it had a very similar name to the hotel we already had a booking with for the previous night. After searching for a long time to try to find a phone number to get assistance, we spoke with a hotels.com associate who tried to call the hotel to explain the mistake and ask for an exception to their non-cancellation policy. The associate was not able to make contact with the hotel at the time, but assured us that hotels.com would negotiate the matter with the hotel to credit our account. In the end the hotel refused to cancel the reservation. My family did end up staying there and it worked out ok, but it was not as nice as what I had originally planned for them. The best thing about the hotel was that it was right next door to the Russell Square Underground station and across the street from the Bloomsbury shopping mall. Very convenient and surprisingly quiet for being so close to the tube. However, customer service was virtually non-existent. It did appear to be fairly clean, but the decor was very bland. The room had hardly anything more than 2 beds and a bathroom; no luxuries at all.
Die Diskrepanz zwischen der Präsentation im
Netz und der Realität ist eine Unverschämtheit. Wir haben das Zimmer nicht bezogen. Das wirft auch ein ganz schlechtes Licht auf Expedia.
This was the worst hotel I ever stayed, for £200 for 2 nights I had nothing in the room, no kettle to, no tea or coffee, no breakfast. Even it was a 3 star hotel it had to have all this, I expected. When I asked the owner for the kettle, he gave me a broken one, I had to ask for another. I don't like asking. For £200 I should have booked a better hotel.

Was ok … just stayed one night and wanted a cheap hotel. Close to Eurostar start line.
Was clean and bed comfy…
Our short stay was fine. I would suggest 3 of things.
1) a few more hangers. We were 3 and only had 2 hangers
2) state in your writeup that there is a hair dryer.
3) organise something so one can contact the hotel. The number provided 02032896304 and 02078377686 are never answered.
While some complained about the noise we never heard anything. The furniture and carpeting are dated but clean and functional. The room was quite small for 3 but as we were only there to sleep it didn't bother us. The location is a 100% advantage so well worth the price.
