Most hotels in Japan are similar depending on the price range. Hotel Monterey Le Frere Osaka compared to other hotels we stayed in stood out to us. Some staff, although not rude at all, did not express the overly friendly and welcoming personalities other hotels did. One other thing to note is that they do not have a lobby area where you can sit to rest or have a drink. Many guests find these areas useful, especially after coming back from a day of local site-seeing. They have a coffee machine which has a small table near it, but even that one table was sometimes restricted from using. These factors mentioned are enough not to pay their price point.

Location was good and Lawsons attached was very convenient. The cleaning staff was not professional- they threw cushions that were on the floor into our luggage when cleaning the beds. They kept bringing more slippers and pyjamas without taking away the old ones. Safety box was broken when we arrived, had to wait to get it fixed. The coffee in the lounge was rarely stocked and not very well kept. Overall service was an afterthought at this hotel.

Lovely stay here! It was convenient with the Lawsons around the corner and the station not too far away. The room was fairly spacious, though the bathroom a little small, but that didn’t matter too much for us. Overall, it was a great stay!

Good hotel, decent room. The showerhead did not adjust at all which was weird and the area around the hotel is right near the "entertainment" and nightlife district. Just be careful with your wallet and strange women approaching you.

Firstly, the train station is right across the street from the hotel which makes it so convenient when you are traveling either from nearby cities or if you just took the Shinkansen from Tokyo or other eastern cities. While there are definitely places to go to in the vicinity, it is a quick walk to catch any other trains to go downtown into the center of the city to see (Dontonbori, Osaka Castle, etc.) Would definitely stay here again. If you are a westerner coming from the U.S. this is a traditional type of hotel you are used to, just with a bit smaller rooms, but exactly what you need unless you are carrying a ridiculously huge amount of luggage.
