We stayed on Nettle's Island for the first time in April 2022. We loved everything the community had to offer, so I immediately booked for the following Spring Break of 2023. After booking the place with Gustavo/Gio Mejia, I messaged them through the VRBO app on April 10, 2022 with confirmation of our stay for April 2023. I received an immediate reply. On March 29, 2023, I messaged the brothers Gustavo/Gio again to confirm our upcoming stay and inquired about how to receive access into their home. I received another immediate response from them, explaining that I would receive access the day prior to the trip. By 12:30 p.m. on March 29, 2023, I received the "keys" via email. My family of 4 flew into Florida, got our car rental, and drove to meet up with two other family members. When we were not able to access our "keys" at 4:05 p.m. on April 1, 2023 (5 minutes after check-in), I sent a message through the VRBO app. I received a phone call from Gio within 5 minutes. Apparently, they had double booked the house and never noticed, despite my messages after booking and 3 days before check-in!!! I received a refund within the hour. However, our two families were left without a place to stay!!! Gio sounded very apologetic on the phone the day he cancelled our stay. Since then, I have texted with him on April 4th, 5th, 10th, 14th, 15th, and 30th, hoping that he would make this situation "right" for a future stay. To this day, nothing has been done.
