This is nothing close to a 5star resort. There are no proper shades in the beach area. Beach area was not clean at all. We dined at three restaurants all of them were terrible and we ended up at the buffet every time. Worst one being the Mexican Restaurant! The buffet food was always the same. The pools were cold and always empty although it was sold out. The entertainment area was placed right in front of the lobby. Some of the rooms smelled horrible, specially in building one. Although the rooms looked ok, and the furniture looked fine, this resort has serious management issues. Do not waste your time and money at this resort.

The resort was beautiful with clean beaches. Everyone is very friendly. There are areas that could do with an upgrade. The rooms above the grill can get Smokey and loud. However they are very good at accommodating new rooms if asked. The coffee at the buffet is cold. It is very tough to get reservations at the restaurants but the buffet has excellent food and makes up for that. The spa is great and they have lots of activities throughout the day. Their cocktails are yummy. We were a big family with 10 people of ages 9 months to 68 years. They were great about accommodating our big party by giving us rooms close by and tables together at the buffet.

Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres All Suites & Spas Pros: The room and the resort was exceptionally clean. I was even amazed how well they kept the bathrooms on 5th Avenue in the resort. The maid service was always pleasant and friendly. The staff outside that get your luggage and rides was also pleasant and friendly. The staff at the buffet, and other dining areas was also pleasant and friendly. When you first arrive the staff at the front desk will greet you with a drink. I like that the wrist band was the key opener to your room. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. You also get 24 hr room service & they have free meals on the room service menu (but limited). Cons: There is a man who work at the front desk who is very rude. Before I arrived at this resort, I tried to reach out to resort to see if they could modify my room. The msn who answered the phone was unfriendly, rude, and kept hanging the phone up in my ear. It’s not to many men who work the front counter so it should be easy to find out who he is. I also had issues with the ceiling in my bathroom in which the water was leaking from the shower head and the ceiling was coming down. The nightlight on the wall was coming apart so I called for someone to fix it. The man at the lobby front desk was very rude on the phone, but he sent someone to fix it. The maintenance man was very pleasant and friendly. The food was not great at all at any of the dining areas I went to. The same meal everyday, everyplace you ate at.

The whole entertainment team are Super. They are so energetic and fun. Creates the best vibes in the resort !! Lots of Restaurants options but were hard to book, most nights our dinner booking was after 8pm. House keeping could have been better, always had to ask for extra towels we had 3 people in the room and never enough towels. Very Disappointed on the Pay at Property amount I was charged. Booked thru Expedia and I have on my receipt Pay At Property CA$15.08 but when I got to the resort I was charged CA$50.48. ( very big difference on what I expected to pay in fees) Front desk was only to say Sorry and did not do anything at all to credit the charges on my credit card. Talk about false advertising, it say on the resort property details fees are MXN 31.12 per night no where does it mention per night & per person. Not impressed, Beware!!! All other resorts/hotels I have stayed at, the fees mentioned that I owe has always been what I needed to pay upon check in, not the case at Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres Suites & Spa. They were not able nor willing to do anything other than push back to Expedia when they should fix the misleading error since it’s their resort fee. This has left a bad memory at this resort!!

The resort was nice, the food needs work. I’ll say the burger place was about the best thing we at there. Portions were not good. Especially at the hibachi restaurant it was enough rice for a small child. You could order extra white rice but it wouldn’t be fried. And it’s not really traditional hibachi. The resort is very quiet so if you’re looking to party or be out on the resort late nights this is a family resort so it’s not really catered towards night life fun couples. Overall service was good, and it was very clean.

NOWHERE on the resort info was stated that ALL BARS don’t offer alcohol until 11am STRICT! Meaning they will serve you coffee, but no hard alcohol. So until 11am your options are coffee, sodas or mimosas/sparkling wine. As someone who can not have any wines or beer, I had to wait each day until the clock hits exactly 11am! IN MEXICO!! On MY vacation!! That is what this particular hotel decided to do and you are NOT informed when booking the hotel!! Oh and their staff loved to implement more rules!! Like at lunch time you can again have only beer, sodas, wine, but NO COFFEE, because they don’t serve it there, apparently manager Otto who is from Italy, thinks that Tiramisu goes well with all of the above but not coffee.Each day there were rules on rules; there are 2 pools, but towels are given only at 1 of them and if they didn’t get updated guest list, you will have to argue with the towel guy about getting 4 towels for 4 people. Like mentioned, all bars open at 11am exactly, so bartenders just stand there for 15-20min while the crowd on the other side is also waiting for that magical 11am so they could get their drink, but the entertainment guy let very loud displeased WOW when no one wanted to participate at his Trivia game! Worst experience! Rude staff, pouring fake mixtures instead of real tequila. They want the tips but don’t bother to provide the service! If traveling with TEENAGERS: NO PRIVACY doors in room, you can’t grab a towel without flashing people in the room

The resort is beautiful, as is the beach! The grounds are well kept and the room is nice and has plenty of space. As for dinning and staff, It was difficulty to get into any of the restaurants for dinner which was a bummer. We were there celebrating a birthday and asked the concierge to bring a cake to the room and asked her to help us schedule a dinner for that night. Unfortunately, she did not help us with either of the requests, and sadly didn’t even look at see if there were any cancellations at any of the restaurants, so we ate at the buffet that night. The staff at the buffet were not very attentive to my group so the many times we dinned at the Buffet, we were only served the one glass of water that they provide upon being seated.
