A hot uncomfortable night
For a 4 star hotel i was really disappointed with the Mercure, i was expecting better. The first room we were given the air conditioning was not working. The windows dont open and it became so stifling hot that we could not sleep. Went to front desk and they moved us into another room, the second room also with broken air conditioning! We finally got moved into a third room which was more comfortable but not until 2am. The night manager agreed to comp us breakfast as an apology for the inconvenience but they have charged my debit card anyway. Would not recommend

Great hotel but shame they now charge for pool use
This is my favourite hotel in Sheffield and we always enjoy our stay. The only downside this time was that they have started to charge £10 to use the pool. This is for every visit you make during your stay which i think is extortionate. This is not mentioned anywhere on the website. Unfortunately this is one of the main reasons i stay here so i will now have to look elsewhere.

some construction was started without giving prior notice. this generated loud hammering noises that continued for hours. managers response was that they din't know customers would be in the rooms and theres nothing they ciuld do about it. no apology was offered. i had to cancel the rest of my stay

What a shame
I was so incredibly disappointed to learn on check in that this hotel charges to use the pool. I have brought my kids here for treat nights now and again over the last few years and this has really taken the shine off and me question if we will return. What a shame.

I was very happy with the quality of the hotel and the breakfast. The front desk staff were outstanding - when I had problems with the lighting in my room they bent over backwards to sort things out.

First room were allocated the tv was making a constant noise even when not on! Unable to control temp of room very hot! Sink smelt when tap was used. Moved rooms better but no control of room temp (no thermostat was promised manager would look into nothing was followed up ! I suffer with menopause so was not comfortable with the heat situation plus no windows to open to cool room down goodness knows what it would be like if the weather was hot .Considering it was suppose to be a 4 star hotel it doesn’t live up to it . The only plus was we got it cheaper than normal and it was a Sunday evening hence the price!
This was the thermostat the room before did nothing !

It was OK.
It was fine. Just all felt a bit tired (in the room - public areas fine). Old, slightly knackered furniture. Fridge door had to be lifted to get it to shut. TV had no sound so had to be replaced. Minimal decor - all felt a bit sparse, not very homely. Not terrible at all, just all a bit OK overall.

Very good hotel but pool not included
Location of hotel is ideal as it's in the town centre. Reception is nice and welcoming. Check in was simple. Our room was great with a lot of space. Bed was comfy and it was nice and quiet. Breakfast was really good with a wide selection of hot and cold food. I booked this hotel on the basis it had a swimming pool and spa and the photo of the hotel is a photo of the pool, so I assumed as a customer I would have use of the pool for the duration of my stay, but apparently not. The hotel contacted me before I arrived letting me know of some extras to add to my stay, like dinner, bigger room, etc. Not once did they tell me the pool is not included even though the photo shown to you first is the pool
