A Blue Sky Lodge

Yosemite National Park is a neighbor of A Kojoji Hela Koca where ‘Dress Circle’ seats await you for a direct vista of this national treasure. The lofty ‘Great Room’ and accompanying loft is the perfect spot during any of the four seasons to experience this natural woodland setting with sunlight streaming through the windows. The gourmet kitchen is designed for ease in preparing and enjoying a sumptuous meal while overlooking the park.

This house includes an octagonal tower on two levels, a great room, large patio, three (03) bedrooms plus a library, laundry, and two and a half baths (including a master bath suite). There is a California King bed, Queen bed, Double bed, and open out twin with an occupancy rating for 10. Comfort and ambiance are provided by ductless heating and air conditioning, along with a gas fireplace and barbeque. Sit on the deck, curl up in a cozy corner, read a good book by the fireside, relax in the claw-foot tub, slow the pace down, reconnect to family and friends. Come and be on the edge of Yosemite National Park in a house made for enjoying life and being a part of a breathtaking adventure.

The Art Deco theme is woven into the wide array of textures and shapes from its exterior octagonal tower to its interior polished granite fireplace wall. A Blue Sky Lodge is a pastiche of many different styles, united in their celebration of the forest just outside its windows. Yosemite National Park is a neighbor of A Kojoji Hela Koca where ‘Dress Circle’ seats await you for a direct vista of this national treasure. From the lofty ‘Great Room’ with its built-in acoustics; play an instrument in the loft, read a book by the fireplace, do a jigsaw on the granite table, enjoy the sunlight streaming in the windows … and be ready for all that jazz.

The design and interior decoration of this house was influenced by the bold geometric forms of Art Deco; the bright colors of the era; the updated craftsmanship of the furniture and the exotic styles of China and Japan, India, Persia, ancient Egypt, as well as Incan and Mayan art.

Come to the house along its Art Deco railing of steel and timber, reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s arcs and spheres and enjoy the international mix of styles, including an exuberance of patterns and subtle pigments… much like the riot of colours within Yosemite in the spring or autumn.

Enter A Blue Sky Lodge through its round blue door and get ready for a kitchen built by cooks. Our family’s pastime is cooking, baking…and enjoying a sumptuous meal together. We built the kitchen and granite island thinking of people who relish the culinary arts and whipping up a flavorful feast in this natural wood-land setting. Sit in the Picasso blue dining room chairs to enjoy great meals…while making great memories.

The Master Bedroom on the first floor is a retreat. A chase lounge is adorned in a Breakers Blue Moonlight fabric and provides a place to grab a quick nap before entering the large master bath complete with a claw foot bathtub, peacock feathers in a feature wall, and Art Deco tile trim. This includes a recreation of the ‘1920 Flapper Fans’ in the tile baseboards combined with a classic mix of Egyptian and Mayan motifs in the large walk-in shower.

The upstairs bedrooms have ample closet space to put the bags in and grab the shorts or hiking pants for a long walk. Art Deco overhead lamps and window trim with red oak pyramids continue the theme. Want to get away? The library tucked into the 2nd floor is a good start. The ‘whimsical’ loveseats with their Georgio Pewter fabric will keep one guessing on the best seating arrangement for that room.

And the loft? Built for a choir to perform for a small wedding below. The musical ‘S’ iron railing pattern is testament to our family’s love of music … along with cooking. The loft has circular cocktail ottoman wrapped in a metric blue Caribbean fabric that is just right for catching a glimpse of a deer or a chickaree (Douglas squirrel) out its adjacent paned window.

And the twin high-back chairs facing the glory of Yosemite are perfect for unwinding, getting inspired, doing a bit of thought-provoking writing or sketching of the trees just outside the tower’s 8-sided space.

A Blue Sky Lodge (A Kojoji Hela Koca) is like an Art Deco design -- timeless because of its futuristic characteristics, wrapped in a green (or white) blanket of the natural surroundings. Rich color, bold lines and symmetrical shapes help brand this house as unique. Sit on the deck, curl up in a cozy corner, slow the pace down, reconnect to family and friends. Come and be on the edge of Yosemite National Park, in a house made for enjoying life.

NOTE: The name of this house has been carefully selected by our family to remember one of the Native American groups who lived in the Sierra Nevada mountains around what is now known as Yosemite. We also tried to include the Miwok geometric forms and lines in the materials and fabrics we chose, including the horizontal lines, zigzags, small triangles, rectangles, arrowheads and diamond shapes that are found in the designs they created.

Half Dome hike trip
I was happy with our stay and the location of the home. I was lucky I planned for no internet and got paper maps of the area as no internet or wifi. I was the most disappointed with the master bedroom on the main floor as the side of the bed that is closest to the bathroom is worn out. I did not get a good night sleep due to sinking into the hole on that side. I have seen other reviews of other people that have stayed here and they have also made the same review but the owner has not done anything about it. Overall our stay was OK. If the bed was fixed I would stay again but would still look for another place that had wifi.

The house and location were excellent. But little things were aggravating. The oven didn't work properly, the outside gas grill didn't work, sink drains worked on and off. And TOO many steps. But it was a beautiful house.

Lovely comfortable home
This house was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Windows and natural light were wonderful. Kitchen had all the appliances and pans we needed. But remember to bring your own spices and oils if you plan to cook, as there isn't much there. The house had no instructions for heating/cooling or for the fireplace, so that was an hour long adventure figuring out how to get heat when it was 30 degrees outside. We found a treasure trove of appliance instructions under the window seat and were able to things going! Also, just a reminder there is no WiFi in this place. We've stayed in other homes in this neighborhood, and know that a satellite goes overhead occasionally, and you can see the first line of an email or text, but can't open them. It was an issue when there was a planned power outage in the neighborhood and the management company sent us an email and a text notice. We couldn't get either so we were caught unaware. While it's nice to be "disconnected" for most of the time, it was scary to know we wouldn't have gotten any safety alerts either...

Lovely home. Very comfortable. Lots of space
We stayed as a home base for Yosemite. It was nice to enter the park only once. The location was great as well as the house. Lots of space. I would suggest more bed linen and blankets. There were not enough for 8. Also need more dishes. Everything else in the kitchen was great

Comfortable mountain home
This is a clean well appointed home, great for families. The kitchen has pots and pans for every meal imaginable. The only recommendation I would make would be for a queen bed instead of a full bed in the third bedroom. A full bed is a bit tight for a couple. Other than that, the house was perfect for our weekend visiting Yosemite.

Magical Family Holiday!
Perfect location for a family holiday. Inside Yosemite National Park and just a thirty minute drive to Yosemite Valley. House was spacious and new. Everything we needed to cook in and enjoy time with each other. Enormous picture windows in living room allowed us to watch the unexpected snowfall with wonder. Management company was a very quick phone call away when hot water issues arose. (Even at 9:00 PM!) Will definitely book with Scenic Wonders again.
