Loved the location of the Royal Kona Resort - very walkable and close to everything (except a grocery store - had to drive to one of those). The view in the dining area and the pool was spectacular and the little ocean lagoon was a perfect place to take a dip of a hot run! I would have liked access to a business centre. Most of the front desk staff were very helpful, a few others, not so much.

Great intro to Hawai’i with a complementary mai tai! Also a nice bar with a local musician and good food. Definitely a resort feel, tourist attractive. We absolutely loved the salt water lagoon! A beautiful place to watch the sunset from! Nice distance from town as well to be able to walk to breakfast!! Highly recommend!

We were upgraded to an ocean front room, and the view from our balcony was spectacular! Enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant every morning as well as taking a refreshing dip in the lagoon. Water refill stations were awesome. Do wish they had real coffee mugs and wine glasses in room and robes would be a nice touch too. Also really enjoyed my spa treatment there!

Despite claims that the hotel and rooms were fully renovated in Bay and Alii towers, both on the website and when I asked at front desk), it was clear it was not completed. Our friends had a much nicer room, despite ours also being ocean front. Hotel in general was run down and staff all seemed stressed, including in restaurant. Bathroom was old, balcony was old.

Our room was infested with cockroaches. We thought we saw some our first night but weren’t sure. The night before the Ironman triathlon, I turned on the bathroom light, and there they were, scampering everywhere. I turned on the rest of the lights, and more were in the living area. Our fruit for breakfast had to be thrown away. We informed the cleaning staff and front desk, showing them the video and still closed, and they didn’t seem surprised. We were able to break our 5-night required stay and go to another hotel. Hotel management never responded to my request for a phone call or email. I’ll be writing more reviews.
