My wife and I decided to stay at Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo after seeing so many positive recommendations on social media, and we were excited to try it out. The atmosphere is really nice, and it’s super close to the ocean, which makes for some beautiful views. The location is great and the hotel itself has a nice vibe. However, there were a couple of downsides. First, they only offer valet parking, which wasn’t super convenient for us. I’m not exactly looking for valet service, especially when we’re just renting a car, and I much prefer free parking on-site. Plus, the valet parking was pretty pricey. The bigger issue for us was that both my wife and I broke out in hives during our stay. The room felt very humid and damp, and we weren’t really comfortable with the high moisture in the air. Our allergies got much better the day we checked out, so while I’m not blaming the hotel entirely (there are many possible allergy triggers), I do think the humidity might’ve been a factor. Overall, it’s a beautiful place with a lot to offer, but the parking situation and humidity were not ideal for us.

Trying not to be overly critical, as we really did enjoy Hiking & our stay here very much. This is a potentially very nice property & excellent location/view, but still needs significant repairs to bring up it's value compared to the cost the charge. Hilton is running this property significantly understaffed, which is stressful for bothering guests & the staff working there & trying their best. We chose to have our room cleaned every other day to be more environmentally friendly, but our room actually never got serviced, even just to bring fresh towels, until we went and made multiple requests to the front desk. Further, there usually only seemed to be one working elevator out of three on our tower, & it was usually busy with staff taking things up & down, making very long waits for hotel guests. Fortunately, since we were only on the 3rd floor, it was usually easier to take the stairs (except when moving luggage). Also, there seemed to be more than typical up charges for parking, resort fees, etc, etc, making the stay even more expensive than expected. Again, for these prices, you would definitely expect better.

Only two elevators are operational. Food at the resort is not great and expensive. Grounds are beautiful but building is showing signs of wear. Overall nice hotel, probably one of the best options in Hilo, but definitely over overpriced.

Can't even park your own/rental car without paying for mandatory valet service. No safe drinking water supplied, no safe drinking water fountains unlike other Hawaiian resorts despite ice machines present on every floor. Room service charged excessive amounts for bottled water. Food delivery from the lone restaurant on the premises to the rooms charged exorbitant amounts on top of the already pricey rates at the restaurant. Staff quite unhelpful right from check-in, they couldn't care less if they tried! One out of three elevators/lifts out of service. The remaining 2 were so slow that almost missed our Uber while checking out. This could all fly if the room rate were reasonable which were horrendously high for what we got. The bathtub would fill up with water an inch high once the shower was on for less than 5 minutes. If any of us were present in the room when housekeeping arrived, they would decline to make beds or do any other service apart from giving us fresh towels, take away the old ones and take our trash. They would not even enter the room and expected us to hand everything to them while they stood outside in the corridor!!
